DRESS CODE
May 2009
Students should be clean, well groomed and appropriately dressed for school each day. All uniform clothing should be clean and fit in a neat and tidy manner. Shirt tails should be tucked in. Please be mindful that these uniforms are worn in class, for recess and in church. Please label sweaters, jackets, and other removable items for easy identification.
Elementary Program - Girls:
- WHITE, LIGHT BLUE, or BURGUNDY short or long sleeve polo shirt
- WHITE or LIGHT BLUE short or long sleeve button down "peter pan" collar shirt
- WHITE, LIGHT BLUE, or BURGUNDY non-ribbed turtleneck
- NAVY BLUE or BLUE/RED PLAID (Available through French Toast only) skorts, skirts, or jumper at knee length or longer.
- NAVY BLUE or BLACK bike shorts must be worn underneath a skirt or jumper if tights are not worn. Available through Land’s End.
- NAVY BLUE or BURGUNDY V-Neck sweater vest
- NAVY BLUE CARDIGAN sweater
- NAVY BLUE or WHITE socks, knee socks, and tights
- BLACK, NAVY, BROWN closed toe, "Sports" style shoes, or low heel dress shoes
- A pair of well-fitting sneakers should be brought for PE class when dress shoes are worn. Students must be able to put on and take by themselves.
Elementary Program - Boys:
- WHITE, LIGHT BLUE, BURGUNDY short or long-sleeve polo shirt
- WHITE or LIGHT BLUE short or long-sleeve button-down oxford shirt
- WHITE, LIGHT BLUE, or BURGUNDY non-ribbed turtleneck
- NAVY BLUE Dockers or Chino style pants (no cargo pants)
- Plain BROWN or BLACK belt
- NAVY OR BURGUNDY V-Neck sweater vest
- NAVY V-Neck sweater
- NAVY BLUE or BLACK socks
- BLACK, NAVY BLUE or BROWN "Sport" style or dress shoes
- A pair of well-fitting sneakers should be brought for PE class when dress shoes are worn. Students must be able to put on and take by themselves
- BLUE/RED PLAID tie (Available through French Toast only)
Montessori Early Childhood Education Program Boys and Girls:
No specific uniform is required. MECE students are however, expected to adhere to the
following dress code:
- Attire must be neat & clean
- Boys in long pants (no shorts)
- Girls in knee-length or longer skirts or dresses (shorts must be worn underneath if thick
tights are not worn). Shirts must be worn under sundresses. - NO characters or large logos or wording allowed on any clothing, shoes, lunch boxes
and accessories. - No light-up or wheeled Shoes
Overall Requirements:
- Dress neatly: Shirts tucked in, shoes tied, no holes/tears in clothes, clothing not overly faded, clothing appropriately sized for the wearer.
- Be clean and well-groomed: That is, recently washed, hair neatly cut and kept. Be modest: Outlandish or distracting clothing or appearance will not be allowed (e.g., tattoos, body piercing, unnatural and/or distracting hair dying, etc).
- Undergarments: If a boy wears an undershirt, it must be a solid white crew neck or v-neck tee shirt. Under some of the shirts, girls may wish to wear a white or skin-toned teen shirt or camisole.
- Jewelry: All jewelry must be modest and matching. One necklace may be worn outside clothing.
- Hats: Unless granted permission for special days or events, students are not to wear hats while inside the school buildings.
- Lunch boxes, backpacks and accessories should be free of any characters or large logos as these prove to be a distraction for the children.
- Special attire: Events such as field trips may call for other clothing options, such as shorts, sweatshirts, etc. Also, special days may be scheduled — such as dress-up days — during which other clothing options shall be allowed.
Enforcement:
To limit possible confusion in enforcing this policy, the Principal and staff will determine whether or not a student is violating the uniform policy. Students not complying with the uniform policy will be required to rectify their appearance before entering the classroom. Cheerful, consistent compliance is expected; grumbling and challenging attitudes will be subject to disciplinary action. Teachers may choose to require any student not in dress code to wear items from the clothing bin before entering the classroom.
Purchasing Uniforms:
Here are some stores where clothing adhering to the dress code may be
purchased: French Toast catalog (ASA receives 5% of purchases, enter School Source Code:
QS5DSYY), Land’s End catalog (preferred school #900099045; 3% of total sales back to ASA),
Target, Sears, J.C. Penney, Dennis Uniforms, Old Navy, and The Gap. SCRIP is available for
most of these stores.
We do have a parent run uniform exchange available to our families.
